  • ERG establishes a new Responsible Aluminium Framework
  • Bolsters responsible sourcing initiatives at Kazchrome following recent public recognition – the EcoVadis silver award and the ICDA responsible chromium label
  • Incorporates copper into its proprietary extended Clean Cobalt & Copper Programme

Eurasian Resources Group (“ERG” or “the Group”), a leading diversified natural resources group, announces that it has strengthened its responsible sourcing efforts and updated its website to reflect this progression. By launching new responsible sourcing frameworks and enhancing existing ones in accordance with international guidelines, ERG is continuing to ensure sustainability across the wider value chains for its key products.

ERG’s newly launched Responsible Aluminium Framework, which adopts a three-element approach to help guarantee sustainability across the aluminium value chain, is now outlined on the Group’s new sustainability webpage. ERG is ensuring that it has complete control over the origins of its aluminium ore, and its new Framework has renewed the Group’s commitment to human rights and sustainable aluminium production in line with OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals from Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas. The Group will strictly adhere to the Responsible Aluminium Framework as it seeks to champion ethical behaviour within the aluminium value chain.

ERG’s commitment to responsible sourcing is being increasingly recognised by international associations and rating agencies. Kazchrome, the Group’s subsidiary in Kazakhstan and the world’s largest ferrochrome producer by chrome content, has recently been awarded the Responsible Chromium award by the International Chromium Development Association, as well as a Silver Award by the independent agency EcoVadis. Kazchrome received 60 points and was ranked in the top 12% of companies rated by EcoVadis in the iron and steel industry. The award places Kazchrome as an industry leader in sustainable chromium production.

ERG has also furthered its sustainability agenda by expanding its Clean Cobalt Framework to include copper. The updated Clean Cobalt and Copper Framework ensures that Metalkol RTR, the world’s second-largest standalone cobalt producer and a major producer of copper, actively promotes responsible production and the protection of human rights. The incorporation of copper production into the Framework reinforces the Group’s focus on improving living conditions and eliminating unethical practices, such as child labour, near Metalkol RTR.

Benedikt Sobotka, CEO of ERG, said: “As a responsible player in the mining and metals industry, ERG prioritises transparency and responsible sourcing in its supply chains. Sustainability is at the core of ERG’s business model, and it is vital that we communicate our practices and the standards we have for our products and operations. The Group is committed to building on these frameworks and ensuring that all of our sourcing practices are in line with the highest standards for ethics, responsibility, and sustainability.”

Anastasia Kuskova, ERG’s Transformation and Sustainable Development Director, said: “One of our main objectives is to responsibly meet the growing demand for key metals for the low-energy transition, including cobalt, copper and aluminium. We closely monitor our supply chains and work with our customers to meet their requirements and inform them about our practices. I am pleased that our sustainable operations have been recognised by EcoVadis and the International Chromium Development Association.”
