Shukhrat Ibragimov confirms that Eurasian Resources Group to start producing gallium with potential volumes of up to 15 tonnes per annum

Shukhrat Ibragimov, CEO of Eurasian Resources Group (ERG), a global metals and mining company, confirmed that ERG plans to become a significant player in the global market for gallium, starting the production in 2026 to supply OECD countries, with a view to expanding annual volumes up to 15 tons per annum.

ERG aims to significantly diversify current value chains to ensure the strategic supply of this critical mineral helping to satisfy the OECD needs.

As of now, Kazakhstan does not produce gallium and thanks to ERG, the country will have a significant share in the market outside of China.

Gallium will be obtained through deeper processing of bauxite ore. The required investment is around US$20 million.

“ERG reinforces its position in the global market for critical minerals, and as part of it, we are going to work hand by hand with our international partners to support the related global supply chains of gallium," said Shukhrat Ibragimov, CEO of ERG.

"We are focused on increasing our processing capabilities in line with our new Group strategy and fulfilling our commitment towards clients and other stakeholders," he stated.

For example, European demand for gallium stands at 40 to 50 tons per year, which is currently mainly imported from China, the country making up 95% of the world total gallium market at 760 tons.

ERG expects to fulfill substantial part of the OECD demand, providing more diversification to related supply chains. The Group is considering to enter in off-take contracts with consumers for a long-term period.

Gallium is essential for the manufacturing of semiconductors, chips, LED lighting, solar cells, medical diagnostic tools, and some components used by the aerospace industry.

It is a byproduct of aluminum and zinc production and is included on the U.S. and EU lists of critical minerals.
