We announce with great sorrow that on February 3, 2021, Mr Alijan Ibragimov, one of the founders of ERG and a member of its Board of Directors, passed away at the age of 67.

Mr Ibragimov graduated from the Moscow Veterinary Academy in 1974 with a degree in Economics of Organisation of Industrial Goods Production and Distribution.

From 1995 to 2000, Alijan Ibragimov was the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Eurasian Bank. Between 2001 and 2007, he was a member of the Executive Committee of the Eurasian Industrial Association, which incorporated some of Kazakhstan's leading mining and metals companies, and between 2002 and 2007, he headed TNC Kazchrome JSC. Alijan Ibragimov was also the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Aluminium of Kazakhstan JSC.

Under Mr Ibragimov's leadership, between 2002 and 2004, TNC Kazchrome JSC became the world's second largest company in terms of chrome ore reserves and production and the third largest ferrochrome producer. He took steps to accelerate the vertical integration of the company by consolidating the Aksu and Aktobe Ferroalloy Plants and Donskoy GOK. The consolidation of mining and metals assets made TNC Kazchrome JSC more attractive to investors.

Mr Ibragimov's managerial policy included a roll-out of an integrated management system across the Group starting from 2003. His choice of strategic partners for the company's industrial projects was underpinned by innovative approaches and HSE principles. Kazakhstan Aluminium Smelter built in the Pavlodar Region as part of a large-scale investment programme is one of the first successful projects forming part of the National Programme of Forced Industrial and Innovative Development. This is a new-generation plant meeting the highest efficiency and environmental standards.

Mr Alijan Ibragimov promoted programmes to train highly qualified specialists. He paid special attention to providing employees with a safe and comfortable environment for work and recreation and initiated the construction and renovation of social infrastructure and amenities and the provision of the relevant equipment.

Mr Ibragimov also played a critical role in the development of ERG as a truly global company and one of the leaders of the metals and mining industry. He was also a major philanthropist and was greatly respected by the wider international community.

Mr Ibragimov was highly regarded for his respect for the spiritual and cultural values of the Muslim community. He initiated and sponsored the construction of a mosque in Pavlodar. Many families in Kazakhstan are grateful to him for the financial support he provided to enable their children to study at the world's most prestigious universities.

In April 2020, Mr Ibragimov assisted the Pavlodar Region and Almaty in the fight against the spread of COVID-19, donating KZT 100 million to each region.

In addition, ERG contributed KZT 4 billion to the Birgemiz National Foundation.

Mr Alijan Ibragimov made an outstanding contribution to the development of Kazakhstan's national economy and was awarded the Order of Kurmet in recognition of his efforts to support Kazakhstan’s social and economic development, as well as the Order of Barys (3rd class) and the Order of Parasat. He was also the recipient of government awards and orders from non-governmental organisations abroad for his major contribution to business development and philanthropy.

All at ERG mourn the passing of Mr Alijan Ibragimov and offer their heartfelt condolences to his family.
